Welcome to the website of West Sussex Woodturners
First, a note about the pictures displayed on our website. Those which are the same size as those on this page are "thumbnails" i.e. shrunken versions. You can click on any of them to see the original picture.
Who are we?
Thank you for taking an interest in our club.
We are a club for woodturners and "wannabe" woodturners who live in
West Sussex (but we are not very strict about county boundaries).
We meet once each month in Storrington. Most meetings are morning
only but demonstrations by outsiders are usually full day affairs.
This is the Woodturners' Hut at Amberley Working Museum where a
group of our members demonstrate woodturning and display their work.
At one time the club occasionally did demonstrations on a pole lathe outside the hut but this task is now performed by the Green Wood Worker Group who have also set up a 'bodger's camp' in a wooded area of the museum.
One of the most popular events in our programme is the "Practical Morning" where two or three lathes, plus grinders are available for everyone to demonstrate or discuss a particular problem or technique. There is always someone who has done it, seen it, or had it happen - why try to reinvent the wheel? This and our regular features of book and video library, sales of abrasives and accessories and raffle make for an enjoyable time browsing, solving problems and chatting to one's fellow members.
We sometimes have a whole day meeting with a demonstrator from outside
the club.
Here are some pictures from such a meeting:

In addition to monthly meetings, sales of work are arranged to provide an outlet to the general public. Two or three times a year some of our members can be found at Wakehurst Place. We make use of other venues from time to time.
All members receive a copy of the monthly Newsletter which gives a summary of the last meeting, news items and important points raised since the previous issue. It also serves as a medium for members wishing to share information, ask for advice from others and exchange or sell unwanted equipment.
The Editor of the Newsletter, Mark Hughes, can be contacted by

The Club Secretary, Tony Matthews, can be contacted by
