WSWT Newsletter – July 2006
Meeting Report - Sunday 2 th July
Meeting Report
Jim Young and Tony Matthews updated us on a number of issues.
- There is still selling space available over the three day end (26-28th) August event at Wakehurst. Wannabe-theres must contact Jim.
- The meeting chose one of two options presented by the committee to select items for the Club Table at the Surrey Open. They would be chosen from those presented at the Turner of the Year competition.
- Via our website, a shop in Chichester, Hidden Nature, has expressed interest in purchasing small turned items for sale. Contact Rachel or Sue on 01243 784884. Address is 51, West Street, Chichester, PO19 1RP.
- We were reminded that the AGM is looming and that nomination forms would be available at the next meeting. Hopefully, volunteers too?
- Ken Payne is taking orders for named sweat and polo shirts at £15 and £12.50 respectively.
The meetings activities then saw Rex Bailey and Ray Jackson vying for the tool sharpening action (not sure who edged that one), Jim Young and Dave Dean deep hollowing, and Denys Dollin and Charlie Longhurst offering help. Many thanks to these members for putting on the show.
Amberley
Ron Wickes reminds us that September is fast approaching and on the 10th the Amberley museum holds its 'Wood from the Trees' Day. He is also well pleased that he now has a full complement of volunteers for the season's roster and is considering a waiting list! Well done all!
The Newsletter
Jim and Judy Reed have kindly agreed to write up the August Newsletter and provide Tony Read and myself with electronic copies. Tony will publish the hard copies as usual. I will email copies on my return mid-month. Tony R. will be relinquishing his duties at our year end, so we are in need of a replacment! The role is to print the NL, address / stamp envelopes, and post! All costs are borne by the club.
For Sale and Wanted
Jim Young is downsizing and this MUST include his cache of wood. Visit by arrangement (01273 494719) Jim and Judy Reed are looking to upgrade their lathe. Variable speed and swivel headstock are "high wants". Email them
Next Meeting (August 6th)
is a practical day and features Charlie M.'s segmented/laminated turning ahead of the September competition.
