Meeting Report
Old hand Denys Dollin mounted the rostrum, ably supported by our video genius Bill, to demonstrate the turning of lidded boxes. Eyes and ears were carefully attuned since Denys will be judging our lidded box competition at our September meeting. Denys started by describing his weapons, the most fearsome of which were a number of home made box gouges, some made from cheap screwdrivers! In fact most of his accoutrements were home designed and demonstrated great ingenuity and parsimony. He took us through the steps in making a plain lidded box as well as showing ways of embellishing or personalising the box lid. Lots of tips and angles from a wily old turner!
Holiday Attractions for Members
Following is a list of wood events to take your mind off the mowing and the grandchildren:-

Next Meeting
As mentioned above our Sept 6th meeting will be a lidded box competition. There are no sections, rules or guidelines just do your own thing! Whilst the judging takes place for the box competition, there will be two lathes on the floor of the hall. One will be manned by Peter Coxall who will bring some wood, some tools and will be prepared to demonstrate techniques and/or answer any questions. The second lathe will be manned by Peter Brown who will be demonstrating techniques of his choice.
Tailpiece
John Woolgar would like to bring to members’ notice the excellent service he has always received from CONNECT 2 at Broomers Hill Park, Pulborough (01798 875628). They stock a vast and bewildering array of screws, nuts, bolts (no smutty jokes, please) and connections of all sorts. Well worth a try.
